Dolly Parton, who was born in Locust Ridge Tenn. on January. 19. 1946, into a humble family of 12 children later on, realized early that she could escape the hardships of her life by using a vivid imagination. Before she was able to write or read, she had already composed her own music. Her first guitar purchase came when she was just 8 years old and started performing on the Knoxville Tenn radio station at age eleven. That same year, she recorded her first album with Gold Band Records an independent small-scale label. As a student in high school she established herself local, but longed for a larger stage. The day she graduated high school, in 1964. Dumb Blonde (1967) and Something Fishy (1968) were the first two albums to chart on Monument Records. At about this time Porter Wagoner was looking for an actress to sing for his syndicated television show. Parton accepted the job in 1967 signed with RCA Records in 1968 and became a member of in the Grand Ole Opry in 1969. Then, in 1974, she left Wagoner's Show because the success of her solo songs like Joshua Coats from Many Colors or Jolene was outstripping their joint releases.
